ATLANTA -- Tre Mason struck a pose -- a Heisman Trophy pose. Theres something the Auburn Tigers running back wants even more than an individual award. A shot at the national title. Mason rushed for 304 yards and four touchdowns, leading No. 3 Auburn to a wild 59-42 victory over No. 5 Missouri in a Southeastern Conference title showdown Saturday that looked more like a video game. Auburn (12-1) kept alive its hopes of playing for the national championship, though the Tigers would likely need either top-ranked Florida State or No. 2 Ohio State to lose in their respective conference title games, which began about the time Auburn was wrapping up the shootout at the Georgia Dome. "We won the SEC championship," receiver Sammie Coates said. "What else do you want us to do?" Added Mason: "We feel like we beat the best teams .... We feel like we deserve to be in the game." The Auburn players headed off to watch the games that could decide their fate, the Atlantic Coast Conference championship in Charlotte, N.C., and the Big Ten title contest in Indianapolis. If Auburn misses out on the big game, it will head to the Sugar Bowl as the SEC champion. Missouri (11-2) should be in the mix for a New Years Day bowl, with the Capital One, Cotton and Outback games among the possible destinations. "Were playing our best football right now," said Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, making his pitch for a trip to Pasadena. "I dont know if any other team can say that." Auburn is certainly playing its best offensively. The Tigers set an SEC championship record with 677 yards, including 545 on the ground. Mason had scoring runs of 7, 3 and 1 yards before bursting up the middle on a 13-yard TD that clinched the victory with 4:22 remaining. He carried the ball a staggering 46 times, an easy choice as the games MVP. He celebrated by breaking out the familiar Heisman pose, his longshot candidacy getting a huge boost. "Youre looking at one of the top running backs in college football," Malzahn said. "He was a warrior today. Unbelievable." In a game where neither team played a lick of defence, Auburn finally stopped Missouri on fourth-and-1 deep in its own territory, setting up Masons final score. Chris Davis broke up the pass, not quite as thrilling as his 109-yard return of a missed field goal to beat Alabama, but another huge play for the nations biggest turnaround team. Auburn, which was 3-9 a year ago and didnt win a game in the SEC, claimed the title in its first year under Malzahn. The Tigers didnt even need a dramatic finish to do it, holding Missouri scoreless in the final quarter while Mason notched two more TDs to break open a game that was close most of the way. Missouri had its own impressive bounce-back after struggling its first year in the SEC. But coach Gary Pinkels team was denied a quick championship in its new league after leaving the Big 12, unable to slow -- must less stop -- Auburns dynamic offence. "Theres a real frustration that comes over you on defence when theyre coming after you over and over and over again," Pinkel said. "We had trouble stopping it, obviously, and couldnt get it fixed." James Franklin passed for 303 yards and three touchdowns, while Dorial Green-Beckham hauled in six passes for 144 yards and a couple of scores. Missouri piled up 534 yards -- the teams combined for 1,211 yards in a conference supposedly known for defence -- but it wasnt nearly enough against Auburns hurry-up spread. Coming into the game, Missouri was one of the top teams in the nation against the run and ranked second in the SEC behind Alabama. The most yards they had given up on the ground was 184 the previous week in a victory over 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel and Texas A&M. Mason had more yards than that in the first half, putting up 195 by the time he trotted to the locker room and just 6 yards off the SEC championship game record. He broke the mark set by LSUs Justin Vincent in 2003 on the second play of the second half -- and kept right on going from there. "Ive never had holes that big to run through," Mason said, crediting the guys in the trenches. "No one expected 300 yards. I didnt expect it." Quarterback Nick Marshall shook off two early fumbles, one of which Missouri returned for a touchdown. He ran for 101 yards and a touchdown and passed for 132 yards and another score. The lead changed hands seven times. Missouris last gasp was Franklins 5-yard touchdown run, followed by a two-point conversion, that closed the gap to 45-42 heading to the final period. But Auburn dominated the final 15 minutes behind the play of Mason. Late in the game, when Auburn had finally wrapped it up, Mason got a hug on the sideline from Auburns greatest back, Bo Jackson. "Hes one of the better players ever to wear an Auburn helmet," Malzahn said, referring to Mason, not Bo. "Thanks, coach," Mason said. They might have a better chance if they didnt keep falling so far behind. After winning 11 consecutive games, the Blue Jays dropped their fourth in the last five with a 7-5 loss to the Red Sox on Friday night after erasing a five-run deficit. One night earlier, they lost to Boston 7-4 after falling behind by seven. "What makes it tough is we came back and tied it" on Friday, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said, "but its never easy playing catch-up and thats what weve had to do." Josh Johnson left after 3 1-3 innings trailing 5-0, but Toronto tied it in the sixth on Edwin Encarnacions 23rd homer of the year, a solo shot. "They chipped away, did a really good job," Johnson said. "I should have still been in the game but I didnt do my job." Toronto charged back into contention in the AL East with that 11-game surge, then went on the road and lost two of three to Tampa Bay before coming to Boston. "We played so good for so long," Gibbons said. "Thats the way the game works sometimes. Youre bound to cool off a little bit." Koji Uehara keeps getting hotter as Bostons new closer. He had his third perfect save in three days. "Im going to tell them that Im not available tomorrow," a laughing Uehara said through a translator. Joel Hanrahan had blown four of his six save opportunities and had a 9.82 ERA before Tommy John elbow surgery ended his season. Andrew Bailey also struggled and blew two consecutive save chances before manager John Farrell turned to his third option, Uehara. "After he went through his throwing program, he said he was good to go" for a third straight day, Farrell said. "So, we were in a save situation, he was going to be the guy." Jonny Gomes put Uehara in that situation when he broke a tie with a bases-loaded, pinch-hit single in the two-run seventh. "Im a grinder," he said. "Im willing to take one off the neck for the team. Youve definitely got to be confident." Gomes hadnt played in five of the previous six games, but is 4 for 12 with two homers and three RBIs as a pinch hitter. He also is hitting .321 with runners in scoring position. The Red Sox had 15 hits, giving them at least 10 for the sixth time in seven games. They have 93 hits over that span. Andrew Miller (1-2) got the win with 1 1-3 scoreless innings. The Red Sox won their fourth in a row and improved to 49-33, the best record in the AL and 3 1/2 games over second-pplace Baltimore in the AL East.dddddddddddd Theyre 16 games over .500 for the first time since they finished the 2011 season at 90-72. Last season, the Red Sox won just 69 games. With the score tied at 5, Shane Victorino and Dustin Pedroia singled in the seventh off Neil Wagner (1-2). Brett Cecil relieved and both runners moved up on a wild pitch before Mike Napoli walked, loading the bases. Gomes, pinch hitting for Daniel Nava, then lined a single past third baseman Maicer Izturis for the go-ahead run. Darren Oliver came in and walked Jarrod Saltalamacchia, forcing in the second run of the inning. Boston had led 5-0 through four innings against Johnson. But Toronto scored four runs in the next two innings and tied it in the seventh. "We battled to come back and tie it and then they dropped two on us again real quick," Gibbons said, "but the bullpen cant be perfect every night." Uehara has been. He struck out two of the three batters he faced in each of the last three games -- one against Colorado and two against Toronto. "Theyve been trying to find that guy ever since Hanrahan went down and then Bailey struggled," Gibbons said. "He seems like the perfect guy for it." The Red Sox went ahead 2-0 in the second on a walk to Napoli, a single by Nava and Stephen Drews sixth triple of the season and third in four games. Napoli singled in a run in the third before the Red Sox scored two in the fourth when Drew started the rally with a one-out double. He left the game with a tight right hamstring and Brandon Snyder pinch ran. Jose Iglesias then singled and both runners scored on a single by Jacoby Ellsbury. After four shutout innings, Red Sox rookie Allen Webster struggled in the fifth when he allowed RBI singles to Jose Bautista and Encarnacion and a sacrifice fly to Adam Lind. Izturis made it 5-4 with a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Notes: Farrell said Drew is day-to-day. ... Ellsbury extended his hitting streak to nine games and increased his AL-high total to 22 hits leading off an inning. ... Toronto SS Jose Reyes singled in the third, his first hit since he returned Wednesday after missing 66 games with a severely sprained left ankle. ... Boston rookie SS Iglesias went 2 for 4 and has 52 hits in 124 at bats. ... Johnson, who came to Toronto from Miami after last season, got his only win with the Blue Jays in his previous start, a 13-5 victory over Baltimore. ... Esmil Rogers (3-3) pitches for Toronto on Saturday against Felix Doubront (4-3) in the third game of the four-game series.
